What is Star Idol Academy?
Star Idol Academy (SIA for short) is a school where students can pursue their dream to become idols (or designers!) but still get a good education in case things don’t work out.
How did this school come to be?
This school has a lore to it. If you would like more information, please refer to the STORY tab on this site!
We personally take activity checks seriously. We are always on top of our students to make sure they complete their activity checks on time and offer assistance in case if they cant. That said, we are not that harsh but we do try to make sure no one just has their OCs sit here and collect dust. If you do feel like you can't complete the check for any given reason, let us know. Message the group, we're flexible.
How active is this group?
Does this group have a Discord server?
Yes, we do! Star Idol Academy is primarily run through Discord; we often hold group RPs in our discord server, as well as post regular announcements related to the group! If you’re interested in joining our server, simply click the link on our front page! Members of Sister Schools are also allowed to join the server!
This group isn't for you then. While we do welcome new/beginner artists, you MUST be able to draw your character yourself in order to pass our activity checks. Commissioning someone to draw your OC for you WILL NOT COUNT. We don’t allow bases or tracing either.
So what if I can't draw? But I can RP and know my OC and have found someone to draw them for me!
When are you open?
Currently, the group is permanently open! Under normal circumstances however, we usually open at the beginning of every other month. Our application period lasts for a few weeks right after the opening.
Activity checks are different depending on the type of OC you have.
Idols must submit at least a half body + flat colored picture of their OC to the group once every 6 months. Sketches, Headshots, and Chibis do not count.
Designers must post one full coord every 6 months! Cards are optional.
If your OC is both an idol and a designer, these activity checks stack. You cannot draw your OC modeling the coord they made to pass; submissions must be separate.
Our act. check deadlines fall at the end of June and December!
Teachers are a special case; they do not have activity checks, since they are basically NPCs. More information about them can be found in the TEACHERS journal.
If you are not on hiatus, failure to complete the activity check will result in your OC being kicked from the group. If needed, we can provide extensions, but ONLY if you communicate with us! The student council is here to help you, but we can’t do that if you don’t let us know what’s going on! For more information on extensions, please refer to our RULES
What are the activity checks? What happens if I fail?
If my OC gets removed, could I bring them back?
Yes, you may. However, they will have to start at 0 and work their way up unless given special permission. You may also include in your idol's history that they have knowledge of being an idol/designer student due to their past enrollment in the school.
Does my OC have to take part in every event?
Joining events is optional, however, events are a great way to gain EXP for your OC and meet other members! You’re not required to join our events, but we do highly recommend it! We also host joint events with Sister Schools occasionally, so you won’t want to miss out!
Although we recommend separate entries... They do count. We will be a little more strict with this, as it's easy to simply just scribble while the other person dumps color onto a blank canvas.
Your collab must be either be a full body of a half body, fully colored and shaded, with a background. No simple one-color solid background.
Designers could also collab a coord together as long as both designers are able to make a coord of the same rarity
Do collabs count as an activity check? What about for Designers?
Then it's like MRA? SRA?
Not quite! While MRA and SRA are connected to us and we all coexist in the same universe, SIA works slightly differently! To put it simply; MRA is a full idol school (no student course), SRA is an idol school with a separate student course, and SIA combines a bit of both; an idol school with a focus on giving our students a good education in case things don’t work out for them in the idol world!
Is this group fantasy-themed?
If you are talking about flying cars, superpowers, and talking robots, then no. SIA's universe tries to be as close to the real world as possible. So your OC should know about real-world idol groups and K-pop groups such as BTS, Katy Perry, and even Hatsune Miku. Although we do allow different hair colors other than the normal black, blonde, and brown hair color. OCs can only have a max of 3-4 colors in their hair, however.
Also no, no idol aura and sailor mooning outfits. (Though we do allow special effects/practical effects to be used in performances to imitate idol auras!)
SIA welcomes all different styles of RP! We use Lit, Paragraph, and Script depending on the situation/type of RP! Most of our members are very adaptable, and can likely work with your RP styles!
What type of RP style do you guys do?
What kind of submissions are you accepting?
We accept all kinds of art (digital and traditional) as well as animations, animatics, comics, and literature!
I'm interested! How do I join?
Thanks very much for your interest! You can start by checking out the CHARACTER CREATION tab on the site!
How many characters can I have?
Members may have a maximum of 4 OCs - 2 idols, and 2 designers. NPC slots are unlimited.*
*(exception: Members are limited to 1 teacher each, and up to 3 staff NPCs each. See Teachers journal for more details..)
When first joining the group, members may have up to 2 OCs - one idol, and one designer.
The second OC slots unlock at EITHER 1000 student EXP, or 1000 Designer/Idol EXP, respectively.
Once you reach 4 OCs, you cannot make any more OCs until one graduates. You will need to reach 1000 EXP in at least one of the above categories with your current active OC before you unlock a new one.
(EXAMPLE: even if you reach 1000 exp with OC A, once OC A graduates, you will need 1000 EXP with OC B before you can make another OC.)
About idol/designer transfers: idol students may become designers (or vice versa) once they reach 1000 EXP in either Idol or Designer EXP, respectively. See the Designer Page for more details.
What can/can’t I do when creating my OC?
Please read our Rules and Character Creation for more information!
Will my OC age?
Yes! Aging your OC is required for this group, but holding them back a grade or moving them up is optional, as long as your OC doesn’t exceed the maximum age in which they can remain in school. (Students will be removed if their age is greater than 18 (meaning 19 and up))
Does my OC need to join a club?
No; joining a club is completely optional! If you are interested in joining a club however and don’t see one you like, you are allowed to make your own! Check out the Clubs tab for more information!
Do I have to use what's in the Idol Closet?
Nope. You are allowed to make your own costumes for your idol to perform in. Have them wear their own idol outfit if you like, or a random design you found on the internet (make sure you credit them!) Make your idol sparkle on stage!
How does EXP work? If I use a pre-made background do I still get the exp for having a background?
For more information, please refer to the EXP System
No. Unless you are using the backgrounds found in SIA’s (or sister schools) Background Resources folder, you will not receive EXP for a background you didn’t draw yourself.
